Snowmobiling
 |
Snowmobiling
is the most popular winter sport on the Umatilla National Forest. With
the help of several local snowmobile clubs, over 250 miles of trails
exist forest-wide. Many areas are specifically set aside for
snowmobiling during the winter months and closed to all other motorized
travel.
With over 200 miles of groomed tails, the north
half of the Forest is a snowmobiler's paradise. Volunteers maintain and
groom the trails system with funding from both the Washington and Oregon
State Snowmobile Associations. These trails are marked with trail signs
along the right side as you leave the trail head and on the left side on
your return. Trail signs with directional information and mileage are
located at each trail head and at major intersections.
